Bio.
John Bernard is a Coventry based poet, musician, and creative mentor of East African heritage. His work is known for its authenticity and emotional depth, exploring themes of social justice, youth empowerment, faith, and purpose. Through a powerful blend of storytelling and thought-provoking insight, he has established himself as a compelling and influential voice within the contemporary poetry scene.
John was the Coventry Poet Laureate (2023–2025) and has been awarded an honorary Doctorate of Letters by the University of Warwick, in recognition of his creative work and his commitment to empowering young people and amplifying underrepresented voices.
Beyond the stage, John’s impact is rooted in community. He delivers creative workshops and mentorship programmes that support young people in finding their voice, building confidence, and expressing themselves through poetry.
